I looked around the room and thought how many people are becoming the kind of friends with whom we'll always stay in touch. At the beginning of the Nieman experience, the curator Bob Giles told us, "your greatest resource this year is each other". I think it's true. But it's the kind of truth you can only understand when you live it.
A good time was had by all at Lippmann House last Saturday - including a Secret Santa for the kids, a Yankee gift swap for the adults, and much mulled wine and merriment. Tonight we're going to Josh's dinner party, tomorrow Nazila has invited us for a Persian lunch, and tomorrow evening we head to Ian and Hilary for a family barbeque. Tough I know. But I really appreciate it. My gift this year is the year itself.
