Day Four. Watkins Glen State Park.

We all felt like children today. Biking, hiking and swimming.

In theory, the highlight was the trail along the Watkins Glen creek, a monumental slate gorge carved out during the last ice age, dotted with waterfalls. Very scenic as you can see. Tick.  But the real highlight was right next to us in the carpark -   the open air Olympic size swimming pool.  Municipal facilities at their lovely best.

We all swam, Tom discovered how to leap off diving boards, and then we all sunbathed with "his, his and hers" novels, and icecream sandwiches from the snack bar.  All among thick woods, under the sun, and for free. Forgot phones, forgot cameras.  Cheers.

Tonight, mozzarella with slices of Roma tomato and basil for starters; teriyaki salmon, sticky rice and asparagus for main ; and  cherry pie and mango icecream for pud. Double cheers, though I say so myself.

I read that General McChrystal has gone. Seems much more than half a world away.

Goodnight all.
