Mum here. My head is reeling! We are in Chuckee Cheese - like a McDonalds Play Place only bigger brasher and BETTER!!!! It is a kid's kasino - full of rides and slides and Blackpool pier type slot games.
We promised the visit to Tom waaaaay back ... he kept seeing the logo, because Chuckee Cheese sponsors one of his favourite TV programmes - Word Girl on PBS. The programme is all about the beauties of spelling and vocabulary. Chuckee Cheese is all about migraine -inducing neon lights and fun fun fun!
As a motivation to get him out of here... in about ten minutes... we are going to the movies, to see "Up". This six year old is going to cherish his South Dakota memories for ever.
Later... We loved "Up"... what a sweet but also grown up kids movie... The scenes watching the little boy and girl grow old together, when (in cartoon form, and aimed at primary schoolers) you learn they can't have the children they so desperately want, and then when she dies and he has to live on... you could sense the adults around you gulping, while the smaller voices asked "What's happening mum?" Plus, fantastic animation, and wickedly funny characterisation.
On to our little state campground for the night, in Mineopa, Minnesota (our NINTH state) under rainy skies. Such an end-of-the-affair feeling. Night all.
(R adds. Minnesota has far and away the worst roads we've been on so far. We were thumping over concrete slabs with joins that have been widened by freezing winters, and cracks all over the place. The RV just about shook itself to bits. We turned off the East/West Interstate to cut North East up to Mineopa, only to find about a third of the way along that a huge section of the route is being ripped up and relaid - thanks to the Investment and Recovery Act. We were diverted for about fifty miles, East, then North, then East again, then South... Very frustrating. It was about the most tiring day's drive of the whole trip - 210 miles of juddering. But next year these roads should be great!)
